This year the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (USA) has been move to today Dec. 9th.
But really, what's up with Mary?
In my reflection today, I got kinda jealous. Don't worry. I told God I was feeling jealous.
I think I have good reason.
From my limited human, faulty perspective, I see that Mary had the deck stacked in her favor.
Really, "Full of Grace." Not "some grace", not "partial grace" but Full. As in, cannot contain any more, as in Full.
And so I think that why did she get all the good stuff and I got the proverbial shaft of being born into the effects of Original sin? Come on, God. How fair is that?
Which brings me to my next point. There IS something about Mary. Something more than being Theotokos, or the New Eve, or the Blessed Mother.
Mary's situation calls to me to study and pray about grace, and God's plan of salvation. It calls to me to read more about how Immaculate Conception "works" when the bible states that "All have sinned and fallen short of the Gloria of God" ( Rm 3:23).
It calls for some Fides quaerens intellectum in my life.
Bottom line, if there is something in your faith that you don't understand. Get off your butt and start studying to understand. And then pray like heck that God will unleash His understanding upon you.
Happy Feast Day Mary!
